Mel Martinez Resigning
Senator Mel Martinez announced that he will be resigning.
Mel Martinez announced to his staff that he will not be returning to the Senate after the August recess.
Martinez was the only Hispanic Republican in the senate. He will be formally announcing his resignation on Friday in a news conference in Orlando.
Mel Martinez said in a letter obtained by FOX News:
“My priorities have always been my faith, my family and my country and at this stage in my life, and after nearly 12 years of public service in Florida and Washington, it’s time I return to Florida and my family.”
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman Eric Schultz responded saying:
“Republicans seem to have a problem fulfilling their oaths of office. This is the largest number of retirements for one party in the Senate in the past 80 years.”
So basically it seems like Martinez is taking the time off to concentrate on family issues. What do you think about Mel Martinez Resigning?
