Football star Derrick Thomas died on February 8, 2000. He was involved in a car accident on January 23, 2000.
Derrick Thomas was driving on the Interstate 435 with two passengers when his SUV went off-road and crashed. Thomas was racing through traffic in rough weather as it was snowing that day. He and another passenger where NOT wearing seat belts. The third passenger who was wearing a seat belt was not injured.
Derrick Thomas was taken to the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida but on February 8, 2000 he died of a pulmonary embolism.
