Thanksgiving 2009 Next Thursday
Another Thanksgiving day is coming… but, besides the turkey, what is exactly thanksgiving day about?
Thanksgiving is a harvest festival. Is time to thank god for the harvest and express gratitude. It is celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States.
The first thanksgiving was celebrated in the USA on 1863 and it was celebrated to thanks god for pilgrims survival to the hard winter. Later it become an official holiday on 1941.
Of Course, thanksgiving in those times had a different menu. Turkey was any kind of fowl the the pilgrims hunted. They where no ovens to cook so don’t even think about pumpkin pie. Flour supply was diminishing so there was not bread at all. Vegetables where also part of the menu at those times.
So, next Thursday, when you serve the turkey, you can now think about how thanksgiving look like in the past.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
