The White House has released a “preview” of the Obama speech tonight, you can read it below:

I am not the first President to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last. It has now been nearly a century since Theodore Roosevelt first called for health care reform. And ever since, nearly every President and Congress, whether Democrat or Republican, has attempted to meet this challenge in some way. A bill for comprehensive health reform was first introduced by John Dingell Sr. in 1943. Sixty-five years later, his son continues to introduce that same bill at the beginning of each session.

Our collective failure to meet this challenge – year after year, decade after decade – has led us to a breaking point. Everyone understands the extraordinary hardships that are placed on the uninsured, who live every day just one accident or illness away from bankruptcy. These are not primarily people on welfare. These are middle-class Americans. Some can’t get insurance on the job. Others are self-employed, and can’t afford it, since buying insurance on your own costs you three times as much as the coverage you get from your employer. Many other Americans who are willing and able to pay are still denied insurance due to previous illnesses or conditions that insurance companies decide are too risky or expensive to cover.

Tune in and remember that the Obama Speech Time is 8 PM /7C. EST.

Van Jones Resigns

White House Adviser Van Jones has resigned after much controversy over his past activism.

Van Jones released a statement saying:

“I am resigning my post at the Council on Environmental Quality,
effective today. On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide. I have been inundated with calls – from across the political spectrum – urging me to “stay and fight.” But I came here to fight for others, not for myself. I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. We need all hands on deck, fighting for the future. It has been a great honor to serve my country and my President in this capacity. I thank everyone who has offered support and encouragement. I am proud to have been able to make a contribution to the clean energy future. I will continue to do so, in the months and years ahead.”

Van Jones was the Special Advisor for Green Jobs at the Council on Environmental Quality. Van Jones had previously signed a controversial 9/11 petition. There was also a video uncovered in which Van Jones describes Republicans as a-holes.

Ashleigh Kenny | RIP US Constitution

Ashleigh Kenny, a student at Valdosta College, is making news today after she posed with Congressman Jack Kingston with a T-Shirt that says “R.I.P The U.S Constitution”.

On the back of the t-shirt there is a quote from Ronald Reagan that says:
“In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem”.

Many people think the t-shirt is an attack on the Obama Health Care plan but Ashleigh Kenny explained what the t-shirt is all about:

Perhaps one’s perception of the shirt depends on his or her perception of our Constitution. Personally, I believe it is a fundamental document that was written to insure that the government never became greater than the people. When I look at today’s society, the government’s control seems to increasingly outweigh the people’s. I cannot help but feel that the Constitution has been theoretically buried. This design isn’t meant to point fingers, it’s meant to stir an awareness of what we are losing. It’s about the power of the government increasing, while the power of the people decreases.
